“When teaching group fitness, it would be very easy for a coach to say “listen to your body. If it hurts don’t do it” but easy is not the way they do things at Treign Fit. The response I received from coach Cole was more like listen to your body, tell me exactly how you’re feeling so I can find a way for you to do this in a way that is safe and accessible for you. The way you do it might have to look different than the way some of the other athletes do it, but I’m going to meet you exactly where you are. Leg discrepancy makes conventional boxing stance uncomfortable? Let’s try a south paw stance. Scoliosis makes high impact activities like jumping rope impossible? Banded good mornings it is. Spinal stenosis makes too much overhead pressure difficult? Do your pull ups while standing on the box then! I never have to walk away feeling frustrated that I couldn’t participate or mad at myself for not being able to do xyz. I walk away feeling satisfied, and so supported.”
